The Predicted Future of Wonders of Life

As many of you know, I have a big obsession with Epcot. Like giant. That doesn’t matter though because rumors have been floating around through the Disney community about the future of Wonders of Life. It was robbed of the animatronic “Buzzy” (from Cranium Command) in 2018 and has brought the non-festival center part of the pavilion back into the spotlight.

**Keep in mind that all of the following information is being speculated.

The image above was released in 2017 at the D23 Expo. It shows the remodel of Walt Disney World’s Epcot. Look in the center. What do you see missing? Maybe, you never notice these building but if you are in the center of FutureWorld at the Fountain of Nations and you look around you’ll see the Epcot Character Spot, Foutnainview Café, MouseGear, and the old (and abandoned) Innoventions. In this concept art (above) those buildings are completely gone. Now, you might be asking yourself, “What does this have to do with the Wonders of Life pavilion?” I will answer your question but stay with me for a second.

The only use of these buildings is the character spot and MouseGear. Starbucks can be moved, big deal. Innoventions has not been used since the early 2000s for its purpose. With the Universe of Energy being closed, the Horizons/Test Track effect will happen. What I’m talking about is back in 1996, all of FutureWorld East was completely closed (minus Wonders of Life). World of Motion and Universe of Energy were closed for refurbishment and Horizons was… closed and so there was nothing but the things inside Wonders of Life to keep guests going so Disney reopened Horizons and Universe of Energy (after covering Ellen up and disabling some of the new animatronics).

See, Disney is going to be tearing down Innoventions and that leaves Big Hero 6 and Inside Out stranded. Now, they could put them upstairs at Journey Into Imagination but that is probably not what is going to happen. Wonders of Life has gotten a minor refurbishment to its structure and the Odyssey pavilion has been remodeled. So here is what I think is going to happen to the Wonders of Life pavilion.

First, Odyssey will be named the new festival center for Epcot’s three festivals. Odyssey will house them for the rest of its unfortunate days.

Second, the Wonders of Life will be closed and refurbished. The pavilion’s tacky ’80s theming and decor will be pulled up and scrapped and taken away (hopefully forever). The pavilion will take the shape of its former self without its former theming. It will have a quick service or snack bar. It will have its few minor attractions around the central plaza themed to different Disney IPs. The main two attractions will be also rethemed to Disney IPs with Inside Out probably taking Cranium Command since they are the same thing and something taking Body Wars. A Big Hero 6 simulator would be awesome but probably not realistic. All of the characters from Epcot Character Spot will be moved here.

Third, Innoventions Plaza will be closed and torn down and will die. Where will Starbucks go? Maybe the quick service in Wonders of Life? As of Mouse Gear, I was thinking Project Tomorrow (more like Project Yesterday) or an individual store somewhere.

If I were Disney, I retheme it to the Wonders of Earth pavilion. Move that Starbucks and character meet and greet in here. I would do the Inside Out – Cranium retheme and for Body Wars, I would retheme it to a Wall-E ride on how to take care of the planet. Around the central plaza, I would do different Disney character activities (and meets) in there natural habitats. At night the dome would be projection mapped as the stars and clouds.

Disney has a lot of potential in the Wonders of Life pavilion and sure they won’t take my idea but my speculations are from really good resources on the WDW-Magic forums.
